Signed within the plate, text within plate reads, Paint et grave par Manet 1865, and Imp. a. Salmon, on laid paper, with full margins. An original paper label of the West New York Art Gallery. Edouard Manet was a French modernist painter. He was one of the first 19th century artists to paint modern life, as well as a pivotal figure in the transition from Realism to Impressionism. A defining influence on the development of modernism, Edouard Manet embraced innovative painting techniques and provocative subject matter.
