41 reviews

Moses Soyer, American, 1899 to 1975, ballet dancer lithograph. Signed lower right. Сertificate of authenticity on the backside. The artwork depicts the seated on the floor young dancer. Matted and framed. Moses Soyer was an American painter known for figure-dancers, and social realism paintings. Moses Soyers studied in New York at Cooper Union, the National Academy of Design, the Educational Alliance, and the Modern School, where Robert Henri and George Bellows influenced him. Using some of the techniques of his favorite artists, such as Van Rijn Rembrandt and Gustave Courbet, he portrayed his subjects in the perseverance of hard work or in the uncertainty of unemployment. After the Depression, Soyer tended towards ballet subjects, reminiscent of Degas, yet his work retained his own personal style of conveying sentimental moods.
