Lot 0036: ABSTRACT AMERICAN OIL PAINTING BY ELYSSA RUNDLE

41 reviews

Elyssa Rundle, American, 1932 to 1994, an Abstract Expressionist painting in oil on canvas. The artwork depicts an impressive composition in yellowish green with relief silver splashes. Elyssa Rundle graduated in 1975 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in painting from Moore College of Art and Design in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Rundle worked from a studio in Bank Street in Philadelphia until 1981, when she opened a studio on West 23rd Street in New York City. Now recognized as a member of the New York School of Gestural Abstract Expressionism, Rundle took bolder risks in her approach to color, composition and proportion, encouraged by the interaction with fellow artists and feed-back by noted art critics of her time. Three years after her death, in 1997, her collection of work won a grant from the Judith Rothschild Foundation. Established for the purpose of bringing recognition to highly talented, deceased artists, the Rothschild Grant helped create an inventory of the collection, and an exhibit and catalogue called: The Spirit of the Paint, by the Berman Museum. One of a kind artwork. Mid Century American Fine Art, Abstract Paintings And Wall Decor Collectibles.
