Lot 0373: JAPANESE MEIJI TOTAI ENAMEL ON PORCELAIN BOWL PLATE

41 reviews

An antique Japanese, late Meiji era, covered Totai porcelain set of a saucer, and a bowl. The wares are covered with polychrome enamel medallions with flowers surrounded by floral, foliage, and geometrical ornaments made in the Cloisonne technique. The saucer is probably marked with a red ink mark, on the backside. Circa: late 19th century to early 20th century. Totai Shippo is the name given to Japanese cloisonne on ceramics, both on earthenwares and on porcelain. It has a similar appearance to metallic cloisonne ware, with metal cloisons sometimes individually filled with different colours however, some parts of the surface might be left decorated as normal blue and white porcelain, as is done on the inside of the lid of this item. Antique and Vintage Asian and Oriental Enamel Plates, Bowls, Cups, Table Wares, Home Decor, and Collectibles.
