Lot 0276: ANCIENT PRE COLUMBIAN OLMEC JADE STONE FIGURINE

41 reviews

An ancient Pre Columbian Olmec jade stone figurine. The standing male figure is in a simple pose with straight legs and arms straight down and wears a flat headdress on its head. Elongated ears with almond shaped eyes and downturned lips were very characteristic of the stone figurines of the Olmec civilization. Also characteristic of the Olmec were holes from drilling on the face and body of stone artworks. Perhaps they were used for decoration, putting earrings in the ears and a variety of changeable clothes. Comes with a stand. Labeled Orenda Labs report available on the backside. Olmec motifs were widespread in the centuries from 1000 to 500 BC, showing a consistency of style and subject throughout nearly all of Mesoamerica. South American Collectibles, Home Decor.
