An antique Russian enamel icon of Hermogenes, patriarch of Moscow and all Russia. Travel icon of miniature size. Rectangular hand painted enameled icon, finift technique. Circa 18th Century. On the reverse side, there is an inscription with the date 1610. Framed in a brass frame with a suspension ring. Hermogenes, or Germogen, born around 1530, died 1612, was the Patriarch of Moscow and all of Russia from 1606. It was he who inspired the popular uprising that put an end to the Time of Trouble in Russia. Hermogenes was glorified by the Russian Orthodox Church in 1913.
