Larry Cabaniss, American, Italian, 1926 to 2007, a vintage Modernist oil on canvas painting depicting a resting nude lady with two cats. Signed by the artist lower right, additionally signed and inscribed en verso. Housed in a gilt wood frame. Larry Cabaniss was born in Akron, Ohio in September 1926. Too young for WWII, he was in the army as part of the occupation forces in Japan starting in 1946. While in Japan, he studied art under Fujitso and then at Pratt Institute when he returned. He worked in an ad firm and then studied in Paris in the 1950s. He was back in the US until 1961 or 62 when he went to Rome, where he did most of his work. He lived about 100 feet from the Trevi Fountain on Via Del Lavatore. He made only rare visits back to the US, usually for an exhibition. He died in Rome in 2007. In 1961, his paintings were exhibited at The 64th Annual American Exhibition, located at The Art Institute of Chicago.
