Lazare Volovick, 1902 to 1977, a Post Impressionist oil on panel painting depicting a young nude lady reclining on a sofa. Signed lower right. Framed. Lazare Volovick was born in present-day Ukraine in Kremenchuk as the youngest son of a Jewish family with seven children. He received early drawing lessons and studied at the academies of Kharkov and Kiev from 1917. He emigrated to France with his friend Kostya Terechkovich, where he settled in Paris in 1921. In Paris, he socialized with contemporary artists and met his future wife, the dancer Lya Grebina, who he accompanied later on a tour around the world. In 1936 they lived for a few months in New York and London. In 1944 he moved to Montparnasse. He worked in the studio of his friend Vladimir Naiditch at the Boulevard St. Jacques. In the light and the atmosphere of this studio, he created many works up to the 1970s. In addition, he is influenced in his following years by his trips to Venice. Volovick is counted in the Еcole de Paris and created portraits, nudes, still life, and scenes from theatrical life. His works have been exhibited in numerous galleries. One of a kind artwork.
