A glazed earthenware William the Hippopotamus Metropolitan Museum figurine reproduction. Since its arrival at the Museum in 1917 the Egyptian faience hippo sculpture has been a favorite with Met visitors, and for many years has been known as William the Metropolitans unofficial mascot. Like the original, the blue figurine is decorated with drawings of lotus blossoms and marsh plants. Marked Metropolitan Museum underneath.
