An antique Russian silver icon depicting Our Lady of Tenderness. Circa 1899-1908. The icon is hand painted with tempera on a gessoed wood board and encased in a gilt silver riza or oklad with finely detailed engravings. Inscribed in Russian below. Hallmarked with a Cyrillic makers mark AN, and bears an 84 silver standard hallmark. The subject of this icon refers to the moment before the birth of Christ, but after the Annunciation.
