An ancient Roman early Byzantine Empire moulded terracotta pottery lamp. Egyptian Frog type with carinated body. Made in plaster mould, decorated with an engraved ornament on the top, a wide raised circle nozzle top and a curved handle on the side. Pale brown clay fabric with light buff surface, fine mica, quartz, white and dark grey inclusions. The Egyptian use of the frog as a symbol of resurrection was continued by the Egyptian Christians.
