An antique, 18th century book with 12 miniature paintings attributed to Jiao Bingzhen. Circa early 18th century. The book has a cover made of woven fabric with a floral pattern, with handwritten inscriptions in Chinese. On each spread of the book, there is one picturesque genre miniature, created with natural paints and ink. Each painting is signed and has two red stamps with the artists name Jiao Bingzhen in Chinese. Jiao Bingzhen or Chiao Ping Chen, 1689 to 1726, was a native of Jining, Shandong who became a noted painter and astronomer. He is one of the first Qing dynasty painters to blend traditional Chinese painting with Western culture. He is also among the more significant portrait and miniature painters in the early Qing.
