An antique Central African Baule Tuntum hand craved mask. The mask is modeled with narrow eyes, a small mouth, a wide collar that completely covers the neck, and a high headdress. Tuntum in the Akan language means black. This type of African mask is a Baule mask which is worn at Goli rituals. It is used in tribal dances during harvest festivals, in processions to honor distinguished visitors, and at the funerals of important figures. Circa: early 20th century.
