A vintage Persian steel Shahbaz Falcon figure. Circa 20th century. The bird is depicted screaming, beak wide open, with a piercing gaze. The entire body of the bird is covered with a complex gilded pattern imitating plumage. The sculpture is mounted on a high stand, also decorated with a gilded pattern over the entire surface. Shahbaz is the name of a fabled bird in Persian mythology. It is described as having a body similar to an eagle, being bigger than a hawk or falcon, and having inhabited an area within the Zagros, the Alborz, and the Caucasus within Greater Iran. In ancient Persian mythology, Shahbaz was a god who helped the Iranian people and guided the Faravahar to Iranian lands.
