Hardcover with gilded covers and spine. 36 hand-colored aquatint illustrations by Henry Alken, 1785 to 1851, an English artist who specialized in sporting subjects. Nimrod, real name Charles James Apperley, 1777 to 1843, was a Welsh sportsman and writer. Apperley was a master in horse racing and hunting. Both subjects were a focus of his essays for The Sporting Magazine, as well as for his own books. The Life of a Sportsman was first published in 1842.
