Lot 0108: 1962 RUSSIAN SOVIET ERA OIL PAINTING BY IGOR SNEGUR

41 reviews

Igor Grigorevic Snegur, Russian Soviet era, born 1935, oil painting on cardboard, Saratov, 1962. Framed. Provenance: an original paper label of the Zalman Gallery Contemporary Russian Paintings and Sculpture, New York, on the backside. Igor Snegur is one of the modern masters of the Russian Avant Garde and a very prominent Non Conformist artist. The artist took part in the famous Bulldozer exhibition of paintings by Moscow nonconformist artists, which took place on September 15, 1974, and was destroyed by police officers with the help of watering machines and bulldozers, from which it got its name. In different years, critics attributed Snegur to both the second wave of Russian avant-garde and Moscow prescriptions, but the artist's artwork does not fit into the framework of one style. From the very beginning, Snegurs creative activity was multifaceted: the artist was a cinema and theater designer, books and posters illustrator. One of a kind artwork.
