Reuven Rubin was a Romanian born Israeli painter and Israels first ambassador to Romania. He is an Israeli Modernist artist, one of the founders of Israeli painting. Considered a pioneering figurative Israeli artist of the mid 20th century and a founder of the Eretz Yisrael style alongside artists Nachum Gutman and Ziona Tajar, his work is often compared to that of Marc Chagall. Rubin is celebrated for his portraits and sun bleached modernist landscapes of the 1920s and 1930s, which were exhibited at the 1952 Venice Biennale and have entered the collections of the Museum of Modern Art, the Jewish Museum, and the Israel Museum.
