Lot 0283: ANTIQUE JAPANESE MEIJI GINBARI ENAMEL KOGO INCENSE BOX

41 reviews

An antique Japanese Meiji Era Ginbari enamel kogo or box for incense. Circa: late 19th century to early 20th century. The box is enameled with a polychrome image of a blossoming flower on the white ground made in the Ginbari Cloisonne technique. Unmarked. A kogo is used for holding incense and historically most often at the tea ceremony, the temple, or for the small worship area in the home. The kogo is also a wonderful item of character to decorate with, in addition to placing small items in, and around the house or office. They also make great collectors items, and gifts. Ginbari is a Japanese cloisonne technique when clear enamel is laid over a stippled silver layer applied to the copper sheet body. Antique and Vintage Asian and Oriental Enamel Boxes, Table and Desk Wares, Home Decor, and Collectibles.
