Imari ware is a Western term for a brightly-coloured style of Japanese export porcelain from the Arita region in the 17-18th centuries. The style was so successful that Chinese and European producers began to copy it. The story of the Peacock Maiden is a popular Southeast Asian folklore tale about a young prince who falls in love with the peacock princess and they marry.
