A mid-20th century glazed ceramic dinner plate by The Paden City Pottery Co., a prominent American tableware brand active in West Virginia from 1914 until 1963. Ca. 1950s. White plate with polychrome abstract design in the center, in the manner of Joan Miro, a Catalan Surrealist artist. Hallmark, serial no. D-51, Designed by Anton Refregier for Paden City Pottery Co. mark are on the backside. Anton Refregier, 1905 to 1979, was a Russian emigre artist living in the US since the 1920s. He worked in the Works Progress Administration Federal Art Project commissions and is best-known as the author of the mural series The History of San Francisco, located in the Rincon Center in downtown SF.
