An antique Byzantine cast bronze reliquary cross, known as an enkolpion, with a hinge suspension loop. It depicts an engraved image of the crucified Jesus Christ, arms outstretched upon the cross. Reliquary crosses were popular in the Orthodox world in the Byzantine and post Byzantine centuries. They were composed of two halves joined by a hinge. Circa the 8th century AD.
