An antique late 19th-century Russian Orthodox icon of Vladimir Mother of God. Mixed media painting: egg tempera, gesso, and levkas on a wood board. The icon is enclosed in a gilt silver riza or oklad, a protecting case with repousse work, as well as a wooden kiot framing case. Titled in Church Slavonic in the bottom middle. Hallmark of 84 silver standard and makers mark are on the clothes of the saint. There is a suspension ring on the backside. Vladimirskaya icon is a 12th-century Byzantine icon, an early example of the Eleusa iconographic type and one of the most culturally significant pieces of art in Russian history.
