41 reviews

Attributed to Yue Minjun, Chinese, born 1962, oil painting on canvas depicting a military caricature self portrait, 2005. Signed lower left. Framed. Yue Minjun is a Chinese contemporary artist known for his iconic images of himself laughing hysterically, often in surreal and dystopian settings. Born in Daqing, China, he trained as a painter at the Hebei Normal University before moving to Beijing in the early 1990s to participate in the citys burgeoning avant garde art scene. His work explores themes of individuality, conformity, and identity in contemporary Chinese society, and his signature laughing self portraits have become widely recognized as symbols of both the absurdity and resilience of the human condition. Yues work has been exhibited in major museums and galleries around the world, and he is widely considered one of the most influential Chinese artists of his generation. Modern and Contemporary Asian Fine Art, Wall Art, and Collectibles. One of a kind artwork.
