An antique late 19th to early 20th-century Austrian cold-painted cast bronze figurine. The piece represens a recumbent sphinx, hinged and opening to reveal a nude young woman seated on a rug. Vase B hallmark beside the female figure refers to Franz Xavier Bergman, 1861 to 1936, the owner of a Viennese foundry that produced numerous patinated and cold-painted bronzes.
