A Hungarian Herend porcelain rectangular open weave basket or dish in white glazed porcelain decorated with painted decorations in the Queen Victoria pattern. Hallmarked. The colorful floral and foliate Queen Victoria pattern includes butterflies and other garden insects and was first introduced in 1851 for the First World Exhibition in London. Reportedly, Queen Victoria herself was taken with the design and purchased a set, leading to the pattern being named in her honor. The Herend Porcelain Manufactory is a Hungarian manufacturing company, specializing in luxury hand-painted and gilded porcelain. Founded in 1826, it is based in the town of Herend.
