Attributed to Ilya Bolotowsky, Russian, American, 1907 to 1981, oil painting on masonite depicting an abstract composition, Labyrinth. Signed lower left. Circa: 1960s to 1970s. Framed. Ilya Bolotowsky was an early 20th century Russian American painter in abstract styles in New York City. Ilya Bolotowsky is known for Geometric abstract painting, murals, teaching. In 1923 he came to the United States. He lived in New York, and studied at the National Academy of Design. During this period, he joined the art group The Ten, which was also attended by such young artists as Louis Shanker, Adolf Gottlieb, Mark Rothko, and Joseph Solman. Members of the group opposed the inertness of the Academy and organized exhibitions of Independent Art. One of a kind artwork.
