Valentina Semenovna Serova, 1846 to 1924, was a Russias first female composer and music critic. She devoted many years of her life to educational activities among the common people, organizing peasant conservatories and choir houses. V. Serova became the author of over sixty journalistic works, memoirs about her husband and son, memories of composers and artists. In her memoirs, she characterizes her husband with humor, citing verbatim many interesting conversations with him, many of which were devoted to music.
