An antique 19th-century Russian Orthodox icon of Mother of God with Jesus Child. Mixed media painting: egg tempera, gesso, and levkas on a wood board. The icon depicts Virgin Mary in chain mail. Titled in Church Slavonic on the bottom: To the Supreme Commander who Protects Us, referring to one of the Orthodox hymns. Inscription on the left: Stand for Christ until the martyr's cross. Collectible Russian Orthodox Art, Christian Religious Items.
