Lot 0359: IMPERIAL CHINA YUAN DYNASTY CERAMIC CELADON BOWL

41 reviews

For your consideration, ancient Imperial China, Yuan Dynasty, circa 1279 to 1368 CE hand built pottery porcelain bowl with gentle sloped walls and sitting upon ring form feet. The glaze finish is in a pale hue celadon. The rim is slightly flared while its basin boasts an incised central tondo of a floral motif. Great piece, most probably a shipwreck recovered item. The bowl has rim indentations, some of them looking very intentional while others are most probably an accidental occurrence; interestingly, due the value and high cost of production on those times, the piece was not discarded and passed to the next steps on the production chain, receiving its glazing layer despise of the apparent flaws on the dry period. The general lines are of great elegance. Provenance: Private Lumberton, Texas, USA Collection, acquired before 2010. NOTE: base is a courtesy of the auction house, not an original matching part, but a gift to our buyers.
