Lot 0362: CHINA SONG DYNASTY GLAZED CERAMIC SHALLOW BOWL

41 reviews

For your consideration, ancient Imperial China, Song Dynasty, ca 960 to 1278 CE, hand built pottery porcelain bowl with tall walls and squat feet. Great piece, most probably a shipwreck recovered item hence the pale matte finish and fading tones after long exposure to salinity; but at same time, well kept on the deeps. The bowl has a nice shape, faded white ground upon which a register of meandering lines and an abstract zoomorphic figure decorate the basin interior. A very small chip on the upper rim. Provenance: Private Lumberton, Texas, USA Collection, acquired before 2010. NOTE: base is a courtesy of the auction house, not an original matching part, but a gift to our buyers.
