An ancient Egyptian seated cat Bastet stone amulet in display case. New Kingdom circa 544 BC. The amulet is hand carved, narrow in shape, with pointed ears and paws. There is a ring on the back through which a cord could be threaded for wearing an amulet. The goddess Bastet in Egypt symbolized solar warmth, joy, and fertility. The goddess was considered the Egyptian equivalent of Aphrodite and Artemis. Amulets with her image served to protect the house from evil forces.
