Lot 0347: ANCIENT ROMAN GLASS OINOCHOE JUG SIGNED INITIALS

41 reviews

An ancient Roman blue, green and yellow glass oinochoe jug or pitcher with a ovoid body stands on a splayed pedestal foot with tall cylindrical neck and trefoil lip. An undulating trail around the base of the neck and a trailed handle joining the body to the rim where it is folded and flattened to form an upright thumb rest. Marked or signed with initials, IM, on the bottom. This glass example was likely used for the serving of wine. The curved trefoil mouth made it possible to pour from the front of the vessel mouth or from either one of its curved sides. Items are not tested, dated or certified by the auction house. Ancient Archaeological Artifacts And Art Collectibles.
