Paul Silvestre, French, 1884 to 1976, gilt bronze sculpture, Fauna Child, depicting a seated young girl. Mounted on an octagonal shaped gilt bronze base. Inscribed, Silvestre, and marked, Susse Freres Editeurs Paris, on the base. Paul Silvestre entered the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris in 1905 and the workshops of Antonin Mercie and Antonin Carles. In 1911 he was awarded the Desprez prize, then the first second Grand Prix de Rome in 1912. He exhibited regularly from 1921 at the Salon des Artistes Francais, where he won a gold medal in 1930.
