An antique Chinese jade pendant, a reproduction of the Grand Tour. The pendant is hand carved in the shape of a zoomorphic fantasy creature with scratched ribs and a curled tail. The creatures lower jaw has a drilled hole for threading a cord or rope. Such objects were a popular souvenir production during the Grand Tour era, the 17th to early 19th century custom of a traditional trip through Europe, with Italy as a key destination, by upper class young European men.
