Ilya Bolotowsky, Russian, American, 1907 to 1981, acrylic painting on a round wood panel depicting an abstract composition, Small Pale Tondo, 1981. Signed and dated lower right. Additionally titled, dated and signed verso. Ilya Bolotowsky is known for Geometric abstract painting, murals, teaching. In 1923 he came to the United States. He lived in New York, and studied at the National Academy of Design. During this period, he joined the art group The Ten, which was also attended by such young artists as Louis Shanker, Adolf Gottlieb, Mark Rothko, and Joseph Solman.
