An antique Japanese watercolor painting with calligraphy. Edo era, late 18th to early 19th century. Watercolor and ink on two-fold paper. The piece represents a portrait of Heian era waka poet, presumably Ariwara no Narihira. The painting is accompanied by a poem, kanji and hiragana letters in flowing script style, also known as chirashigaki. The right part of the artwork has stamped reliefs. Provenance: estate of Professor Harry Stone, Brentwood, CA. Grey mat, golden frame. Collectible Oriental Asian Graphic Art And Calligraphy.
