Hippolyte Francois Moreau, French, 1832 to 1927, an antique cast spelter sculpture Le Travail, patinated as bronze. The sculpture depicts a classical figure of the half draped male worker holding a hammer in one hand and a drawing in the other. An anvil and other tools are on the round base. Bears an attached metal plaque that reads: LE TRAVAIl, Francois Moreau. Circa the early 20th century. Note: Hippolyte Moreau was born in 1832 in Dojon, France. Moreau was the son of Jean-Baptiste, a renowned sculptor. Hippolyte Moreau first worked at the family atelier. After he gain experience there he moved to Paris to study under tutorship of Jouffroy. In 1859, Moreau exhibited his first oeuvre at the Salon. From 1889 through 1917, Moreau frequently exhibited his work at the Salon des Artistes Francais. He obtained an honorable mention in 1888 as well as a third class medal in 1889. Inspiration of his works come from the same subjects of his brother, Auguste Moreau consisting mostly charming children and young ladies, as well as hunting scenes.
