Lot 0460: MOCHE CIVILIZATION HANDCRAFTED VESSEL 1960S REPRO

41 reviews

A vintage reproduction of a handcrafted stirrup spout vessel with mans head from the Moche civilization. Circa mid 20th century, 1960s. The vessel is colored yellow, orange and red. The headdress of a man has a large amount of decoration, including a surreal large relief flower on the forehead from the center of which comes a ribbon tying the mans head. At the bottom of the vessel there is a marking of the manufacturer of the reproduction. Portrait head, this type of vessel is called so because they often bore a portrait resemblance to real people. Some vessels sometimes depicted the same person at different periods of his life, from youth to old age. Portrait head vessels have been found only in the southern Moche region south of the Pampa de Paijan, in the Chicama, Moche, and Viru valleys. Ancient Vessels And Mesoamerican Folk Art Collectibles.
