A Russian Judaica silver box modeled in the form of the etrog fruit with a leafy branch on the top, with a spherical finial covered with red enamel. Flanked by two curved handles. Raised on for feets modeled as birds paws. Features a gold washed interior. The clasp is set with a jade cabochon. Hallmarked with an 84 Russian silver hallmark and bears the makers mark. Note: Etrog is the yellow citron or Citrus medica used by Jews during the week-long holiday of Sukkot as one of the four species. Together with the lulav, hadass, and aravah, the etrog is taken in hand and held or waved during specific portions of the holiday prayers. Special care is often given to selecting an etrog for the performance of the Sukkot holiday rituals.
