41 reviews

Frida Kahlo, American, Mexican, 1907 to 1954, pencil painting on paper, Self Portrait. Circa: 1935 to 1940. Signed upper right. Provenance: Julien Levy Gallery. Stamped with a gallery stamp, on the backside. Completed with a certificate of authenticity, signed by Arthur J. Cayuso, Art appraisal and Consulting. Magdalena Carmen Frida Kahlo y Calderon was a Mexican painter known for her many portraits, self portraits, and works inspired by the nature and artifacts of Mexico. Inspired by the countrys popular culture, she employed a naïve folk art style to explore questions of identity, postcolonialism, gender, class, and race in Mexican society. Her paintings often had strong autobiographical elements and mixed realism with fantasy. One of a kind artwork.
