Lot 0087: INDONESIAN MIXED MEDIA PAINTING BY AHMAD SADALI

41 reviews

Ahmad Sadali, Indonesian, 1924 to 1987, a collage mixed media artwork on masonite depicting an abstract composition. Signed lower right and dated 1980. Framed. Sadali studied in Art Student League in New York and strongly influenced by modernism and abstract expressionism. Sadali became a leading avant-garde artist in the Indonesians post war art. Sadali began to develop a distinctive style of his art in abstract patterns that are then blended with the themes of spirituality and mysticism of Islam. His impulse of exploration of colors, shapes and space never failed. A pursuit his emotional expression onto canvas plays an important role in illustrating his ideological concept of art, and is appeared on this oeuvre painted in 1967. The tendency of dividing surface by blocks and formalizing space with a process of embodying shapes can be seen an influence of cubism, which adds a volume of creative expression by applying different layers. His color representation beyond the image that has no distinction between motifs and background allows the flatness of the image. One of a kind artwork.
