An antique Tibetan hand hammered silvered copper lidded Kapala skull bowl with a stand. The triangular stand is richly ornamented and decorated with relief skulls at the corners. The rim of the bowl is upholstered with metal, under the rim is adornment with a row of miniature skulls. The lid is adorned with intricate relief patterns, including images of a lot of birds. On the top of the lid there is a vajra, a symbol of spiritual strength in Buddhism. It is also decorated with red and blue gemstones. Kapalas are used for higher or secret tantric rituals, which are generally not available to the public. Many tantric deities are depicted holding kapala, mostly in the left hand.
