Lot 0041: ANTIQUE OIL PAINTING ATTR TO ANTONIO TEMPESTA

41 reviews

An antique Italian oil painting on canvas attributed to Antonio Tempesta. The artwork depicts a dynamic scene of hunting on horseback in the forest, where all participants are in sharp, fast motion. The horse in the foreground is jumping, the hunter on its back is waving his hand. The white dog on the right side of the painting is ready to attack. In the background, another rider and people move sharply, being in the apotheosis of the pursuit of the beast. Their goal is not visible, but is felt in the whole mood of this picture. Unsigned. Golden frame. Antonio Tempesta, also called il Tempestino, 1555 to 1630, was an Italian painter and engraver, whose art acted as a point of connection between Baroque Rome and the culture of Antwerp. Much of his work depicts major battles and historical figures. Italian Old Master, Collectible Fine Art.
