Thomas Rowlandson, British, 1756 to 1827, an antique mixed media, pen and brown and grey ink, watercolor painting on paper depicting a hunting scene in a forest. Signed lower left. Framed. Thomas Rowlandson was an English artist and caricaturist of the Georgian Era, noted for his political satire and social observation. A prolific artist and printmaker, Rowlandson produced both individual social and political satires, as well as a large number of illustrations for novels, humorous books, and topographical works. Rowlandson occupied a unique position at the opposite pole from the majority of English watercolor painters, who were indifferent to the human element in the landscape. No artist has left so full a record of any period as his of Georgian and Regency England. One of a kind artwork.
