A pair of antique Japanese, Meiji era, mixed metal Usubata thin rimmed vases. Each in several parts comprising a base, a stand, a main body, a rim, and a pair of figural handles; of cast, patinated and polished bronze with relief decoration and details in copper, gilded, and silver accents. The bodies of the vases are adorned with relief battle scenes with warriors and a scene with a warrior in a seascape. The footed bases are decorated with engraved images of cranes, foliage, and floral ornaments. The stands feature trees, foliage, and wavy patterns. Each vase is adorned with a pair of removable sculptural handles made in the shape of fish. The upper surfaces feature etched images of cranes and tree branches. Probably marked. Circa: 1880s.
