Vladimir Grigorievich Weisberg, Russian, 1924 to 1985, oil painting on canvas depicting an abstract still life, 1974. Signed with initials and dated, upper right. Framed. Additionally signed, dated, and inscribed, Moscow, on the backside. Provenance: Sergey Popov Galerie, Berlin. Stamped, signed by Sergey Popov, and dated September 9, 1991. Vladimir Weisberg is known for Unofficial Soviet art, White on White painting style. Vladimir Grigorievic Weisberg was a self taught artist from the Soviet Union who became known as one of the masters of unofficial Soviet art in the 1960s and 1970s. He was a member of the Union of Artists of the USSR and received commissions from the state, despite distancing himself from the expected Social Realism style. Weisbergs artistic search for White on White led him to become a painter of the invisible, using shades of white and gray to reveal volumes and shapes of objects emerging from an enigmatic fog. He had his first personal exhibition in Paris in 1984. One of a kind artwork.
