An antique Japanese Edo period engraving in the Ukiyo e style, dates from the 18th century. The engraving depicts a formidable warrior in a fur hat urging his horse. The warriors clothing and weapons are not typical for Japan and may represent the enemy. Provenance: from the collection of Dr. Horacio Fabrega, Pittsburgh, PA. Ukiyo e is a genre of Japanese art that flourished from the 17th through 19th centuries. Its artists produced woodblock prints. The term ukiyo e translates as picture of the floating world.
