A 19th century oil on panel painting by Nicolae Jon Grigorescu, Romanian, French, 1838 to 1907. The painting depicts a rural landscape at Agapia with a farmhouse and an old peasant woman in the foreground, 1867. Signed lower right. Features an old hand inscribed paper label with the information about the painting on the backside, Housed in a richly decorated gilt wood and gesso frame. Note: Nicolae Grigorescu was one of the founders of modern Romanian painting. There is a metro station named after Grigorescu in Bucharest. It was given his name in 1990, before which it was named after Communist army general Leontin Salajan. Romanian currency features Grigorescu on the 10 Lei bank note. One of a kind artwork.
