An antique English sterling silver cigar case Mappin and Webb Ltd, circa 1930. The case of a rectangular form with rounded corners, the lid is finely engraved with a townscape with a church, peasants and animals. Gold washed interior. Marked: Mappin and Webb Ltd., a Birmingham anchor mark, lion passant assay mark for sterling silver, date letter G for 1931. Note: Mappin and Webb is an international jewellery company headquartered in England. Mappin and Webb traces its origins to a silver workshop founded in Sheffield in 1775. Mappin and Webb has held Royal Warrants to British monarchs since 1897. The company's master craftsman Mark Appleby is the current Crown Jeweller of the United Kingdom.
