A pair of ancient ceramic birds from the Indonesian Majapahit civilization of Java. The first bird is a red ceramic goose with smooth plumage. The second bird resembles a different breed of goose with carefully carved feathers. Majapahit was a Javanese Hindu Buddhist thalassocratic empire in Southeast Asia that was based on the island of Java in modern day Indonesia. It existed from 1293 to circa 1527.
